• Winter lip colours •

So since we've just entered Winter (who knew? I've been freezing since October) I thought it appropriate to share with you my favourite Autumn/Winter lip colours. I debated calling this post "winter lipsticks", but since I've thrown some balms and butters in here, I thought I'd stick with "colours". A mixture of high-end and high-street brands have unintentionally been thrown into the mix, these are just the colours I have been reaching for the most. Looking at these lipsticks now, I realise there is a trend in brands...I like Rimmel and Revlon, what can I say.
(left to right) Jelly Pong Pong Lip Blush (name unknown), Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in 501 Stellar, Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 001 Honey, MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Quite the Thing!, Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 107, Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in 085 Sugar Plum, MAC Matte Lipstick in Kinda Sexy.

I received this lovely little wonder in my Glossybox at the start of 2013. It is a dark red with an orangey undertone to it and can either be applied sheer or can be built up to receive desired opaqueness. I like to wear it with simple make up, maybe a peach blush and some winged liner. The finish of the lip blush is satin with a very slight sheen on the lips. Perfect for the holidays, we can afford to go more daring with our lip colours around Christmas time.

Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in 501 Stellar
Currently £6.49 from Boots, click here to be directed to the site.
I own a few Apocalips and Stellar definitely stands out to me. I find myself reaching for it most in the Winter months as it can add some brightness to your make up look when it's to drab and dreary outside! The finish of the Apocalips line are amazing and they really do last on your lips all day. I can apply the lip lacquer in the morning, eat, drink, talk, whatever during the day, and I will still have a lip stain at the end of the day. They are so opaque that you will need a mirror to apply them (things get messy if you play the guessing game) and you only need one coat - you're good to go. Can't recommend these enough.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 001 Honey
Currently £7.99 from Boots, click here to be directed to the site.
Revlon have really been bringing out some wonderful products this year (LAST year, sorry...still can't get my head around it being 2014) and these are no exeption. The balm stains are ridiculously moisturising, so easy to wear and are subtle enough for work and school. If you're not daring enough to go for any of the other lip colours on this post, this one is perfect for you. It's a purpley-mauve and is vampy in a really downstated way.

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Quite the Thing!
Currently £15.50 from MAC, click here to be directed to the site.
I've been shopping my stash lately as I realised that I had got stuck in a rut when it came to lip products. I found this beautiful lipstick a few months ago and I'm so glad I decided to raid my old make up bag. The sheen supreme's are moisturising yet highly pigmented and this colour is no different. It's a deep purple with the smallest particles of glitter, perfect for a night out. I will mention, though, that the staying power isn't as amazing as, say, a matte lipstick, because the finish is so moisturising it does slip off after a few hours. But I can move past that as the colour is so beautiful.

Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 107
Currently £5.49 from Boots, click here to be directed to the site.
This is the lipstick that has been on my lips for the majority of November and December. The colour is a gorgeous wine colour and has a matte finish, so is very long-lasting and leaves a stain on your lips after 5-6 hours. There is a more detailed review on my 2013 beauty favourites post (click here!), so give that a read if you're interested in the product. I must say though, this has to be my favourite of the bunch. I can see myself wearing it throughout 2014, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. I can't get enough of it.

Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in 085 Sugar Plum
Currently £7.99 from Boots, click here to be directed to the site.
With so many colours to choose from, there really is a lip butter for everyone. They provide a sheer to medium coverage and moisturise your lips as a chap stick would. Sugar Plum in particular is quite similar to the Revlon Just Kissable Balm Stain in Honey but is slightly darker with more pigmentation and is slightly more moisturising. It's a beautiful purpley-mauve colour and looks great with a minimal/natural make up look. I highly recommend these and have picked up a few along the way. The colour selection really is on point and they are definitely worth checking out!

MAC Matte Lipstick in Kinda Sexy
Currently £15 from MAC, click here to be directed to the site.
I just had to include my all-time favourite nude. When my lips need a break from all the purple, red and wine colours, a nude can look just perfect. I love the matte lipsticks from MAC and this one in particular does not dry my lips out or settle into any fine lines. It's more of a browny-nude than a pinky-nude and to be honest I prefer that for the Winter months. In the Summer, I can see myself reaching for more pinky-nudes such as Hue or Patisserie, but for this time of year I really enjoy Kinda Sexy. This lipstick holds real nostalgic value for me as I bought it with my best friend after I kept pinching hers whilst on holiday in Barcelona!

I hope you enjoyed this post and it gave you some inspiration for a post-Christmas lip colour shopping trip. It's not too late to be whacking out the darker colours! Come mid-spring, I may slip back into my orangey-peach lip colours - but we shall see.

What have been your favourite colours recently? I'd love to hear from you, I'm always on the hunt for more perfect Winter colours!
